[OKC JUG] June Meeting Reminder

*Registration Changes*
Good afternoon! With the June meeting just over two weeks away(
http://okcjug.org/content/view/72/1/), I need to make known, on behalf of
the steering committee, a change we've opted to implement with regard to
online registration. Heretofore, online registration has been merely
strongly encouraged. To help with various logistics issues, most notably
the food order, we will be implementing a policy which will require
registration should you want to partake of the sponsor-provided provender.
Furthermore, if you have any interest in the door prize, you will also need
to register online. Registration puts you down for participation in both,
for what that's worth.

*How it works*
This, then, is how things will work. On the day of the meeting, once
registration has closed (which at about 9:00 that morning), the list will be
printed by someone on the steering committee (which will probably be me, in
case anyone cares). As you arrive at the UoP, you will need to check in
with whomever is handling the list (we haven't worked out those details yet,
but it should be obvious who that person is). Once you've checked in, you
will be given *both* blue tickets. You will then take both tickets to pick
up your food. Someone there will take half of your ticket, just as we've
done since days untold. The half we keep will be your entry in the door
prize drawing, and the half you keep will be your receipt, should you win
the drawing.

Hopefully, this won't be too onerous. Our main hope is that this will help
us insure that the food order is as adequate as possible. Feedback is, of
course, welcome. In case you need them, here are the links:

*A poll is up!*
On another note, at the Steering Committee meeting last week, we discussed
various issues regarding our meetings, including space and time. Stephen
Hawking said it was the best meeting he's ever attended! At any rate, for
the time being, we fell that we've gotten a good handle on the space issue
and are working with UoP to make sure we get all of that addressed.

The time issue, though, is a bit more difficult. The issue is this: given
the extreme and basically inflexible time constraints we have at lunch, our
speakers are required to rush through their material, often with little time
for a Q&A session. In fact, this been a fairly common complaint over the
past few months on the feedback forms. We see no way to remedy this that
does not involve moving our meetings *back* to the evening (and, thus,
dropping the lunch session). For what it's worth, most JUGs seem to have
only an evening meeting, and those leaders I've talked to were surprised
that we do two. At any rate, we have a poll up on the web site with a few
options. Please be sure to vote online, and feel free to discuss the
proposed move here. Barring any major objections, this change will likely
be implemented for the *July* meeting (June will remain as is), so if you
hate the idea, speak now or forever fume in silence.

Thank you for your time and attention. ;)
