I am a recent Software Engineering graduate and I've worked in the oil and gas industry for the last 4 years. In the oil and gas industry you've got a ton of societies and professional groups; just in Oklahoma City there is the SPWLA (http://www.spwla.org/), OCGS (http://www.ocgs.org/), and SPE (http://www.spe.org/index.php). I just went to my first OKCJUG meeting in August and I was thoroughly impressed. OKCCoco has a wonderful facility. The talk was great and informative, it gave me a great deal of reading to do! I'm planning on making as many meetings as possible.

I know of the different developer user groups; OKCDG, OKCSQL, and OKCLugNuts. But are there any local / national professional societies anyone is a member of? If I get some different certifications then there is that range of groups I can belong to. But what about IEEE (http://www.ieee.org/index.html) or other national associations?

I appreciate any feedback.

Regards,
Jon
