Even bad code can function. But if code isn't clean, it can bring a development organization to its knees. Every year, countless hours and significant resources are lost because of poorly written code. But it doesn't have to be that way.

Based on the book "Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship" by Robert C. Martin, this talk will examine best practices for cleaning code "on the fly". You will be challenged to think about what's right and what's wrong with code, and how to transform a codebase that has problems into one that is sound and efficient.

We will explore specific techniques for improving code bases and managing complexity in order to maximize the benefits of agile development and long-term project stability and maintainability.

Speaker
Mark Lookabaugh is a test-driven development advocate and code quality evangelist. He is passionate about software and the techniques to make it the best it can be. Mark earned his Master's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Oklahoma. He works for Power Costs as a principal developer in the Energy Market Systems division. In his spare time, he enjoys gaming, playing guitar, and reading.
