Here is a recap of what we discussed at Monday's meeting:
Our July presentations will be by Dave Nicolette, covering
Internationalization. Ryan said he felt that Dave would like to do both the
lunch and evening presentations (if that's not right, speak up now! :).
Concerning that, we decided that our default scheduling policy will be that
the speaker will do both sessions unless he (or she! :) prefers otherwise,
someone else would like to do the lunch talk, etc. Principal will be
sponsoring the lunch talk, and maybe the evening talk. Ryan is following up
(see below).
We still need a "Hello, Java" topic for July, so if someone has something
he's dying to do, please let us know. Otherwise, someone on the steering
committee that hasn't given a talk, etc in a while will work something up.
Right, Bryan? ;) We also discussed creating a list of categories for Hello
Java topics to help people select something to cover, hoping to get more
people involved. We also talked about the possibility of trying to keep the
Hello Java topics more focused on JDK topics rather than various libraries,
but we didn't come to a hard and fast position on that. More of a
guideline.
Brandon Burk is tentatively on the hook for August, covering Drools, and
Valtech may be sponsoring.
We spoke briefly about the question of filing for non-profit status. No
decision was reached. Ryan is supposed to reply to my prior email with his
thoughts. ;)
Barring a negative response from FT Reno, our SC meetings will be moved to
lunch time on their campus. If they deny our request, we'll pick a
restaurant somewhere in that area.
The OK Code Camp will be announced at the next meeting.
Everyone (all three of us) were happy with the Mailman setup the SC list is
on and decided to move the main JUG list to a mailman list (hosted on my
Dreamhost account). Unless someone complains soon, I'll create the list
(probably "jug at okcjug.org" unless someone has a better suggestion), copy the
user list, and eventually disable the Yahoo! groups list. Speak now or
forever bite your tongue! I'll also announce this list on the main JUG list
and invite those interested to sign up.
Ryan asked about doing something "with a wider appeal" like a job fair
sometime this fall, with maybe a speaker or two. Might be a good idea. It
would be a good in at those Java shops in the city that don't have much or
any representation in the JUG. Talk amongst yourselves.
Speaking of Java shops, if you know of any Java shops we've not listed
and/or have contacts at any, please speak up. We'd like to start trying to
make contact with those shops and drum up some more attendees.
Action Items:
* Ryan:
** Check on dinner sponsor for July
** Reserve lunch room at FT Reno (3 month block)
** Check on Valtech sponsorship for August
* Me
** Update sponsor info page with suggested lunch vendors, costs, food
amounts, etc.
** Update presentation links page; split the page into years; reorder table
to newest first
* All of us
** Chase down Java shops
I think that's it. Please let me know of any feedback, corrections,
paralyzing fears, etc...
