[Steering Committee] Feb 2009 evals

How is it that scala isn't practical. It's getting used in large organizations, it has a cleaner model for exploiting multi core CPU's ANC it runs on the JVM. In fact it can be run by starting the JVM directly.

As for annotations, love them. I also know of multiple large shops still on Java 1.4 and they are not using javadoc-based annotations.

How about something more practical and approachable?

There’s lots of things you can do with custom annotations to make your code better. I could do a When/Why to use Annotations presentation…

That would be awesome. I'd love a good intro to Scala. :)

Let's just talk Mitch into doing one on Scala.

I'm out next month, otherwise I could do something on the new slim interface used by FitNesse for test execution. Maybe later in the year.

here it is. I've started new tabs and moved a column..

Wow. Roughly 60 in attendance and only 11 evals. Predictably, the lunch debacle was noted seriously a couple of times. I totally screwed things up there. My apologies. I'll try to get things lined up better next month. The price was right, but the location not as convenient as I thought it was in my head. Perhaps if we have someone from Hertz pick it up on the way we'll be better set there. We'll see.

Larger room: Working on it.
Night meeting: Nobody was coming.
Door prize feedback: Looks like Brian's Think Geek idea might be a hit. Not sure about the game idea, as not everyone has a PS3, 360, or Wii, etc. Someone wants a cheeseburger. He can haz cheezburger!
Better grammar: Who? Where?

Interesting and varied feedback. It's always a mixed bag, isn't it? :)

Any early thoughts on a presenter for next month? I have some I'd like to do, but none of them have been put together yet (JS talk proposed for J1, JSF2,...). With enough warning, I could probably get something put together. Is there anyone that's been asking to present? Has something ready? :)
